Concept Idea & Source imagery for Pattern & Shape influence - Pantone D&AD

Concept Idea & Source imagery for Pattern & Shape influence - Pantone D&AD

Concept and plan
To expand on my past research into Tingley which was quite broad to help influence an idea for the project this collection of images will help influence my new concept idea based on:

Provoking memory within past residents and informing people with no knowledge of Tingley through the presentation of iconic events, history & heritage and past and present architecture using shape and pattern as a visual vessel for colour that alongside these visuals will support these elements with relevant color connotations and theories.

Using a publication format will allow the outcome to be quite interactive and immerse the user into this visual timeline.

Source Imagery
David Batty was an icon of tingley, football colours and visuals could represent some ideas within this concept quite well. The green from Tingley Athletic Crest shows the rural location quite well.

Past and present locations including churches, farms, pubs listed buildings and houses and shops will influence nostalgia and recognition across different age ranges. More historic examples can act as a more informative influence for all target audiences, as I didn't realise some of the shops that were in Tingley over a 100 years ago, Leodis.com provided a great archive for all these images.

Remembrance of the train services through this miniature railway which is also gone.

Past, present and renovated pubs that met the needs of the high population of coal miners in the area.

Listed buildings that have gone through journeys of shops to residential properties.

Churches, the location is known as a parish village so there was a lot of active churches, not so many now though.

Past and present trade, all deriving from the coal and wool industry.

Places of education and public meetings referencing back to past research suggesting Tingley was a meeting place for local councils.

Extension producing more source images of iconic events and location based research like maps.
Harrington bomber.

Radio Mast, Tingley roundabout, Reservoir, Modern and Historic Ariel views.

Plenty of influence to start gathering pattern, shape and colour influence from, the next stages will be to begin scamping and developing shape and pattern systems and start playing around with colour interaction using the pantone libraries and systems.
