Responsive branding brief, Problem Analysis & Introduction- DH & JS Trading

Responsive branding brief, Problem Analysis & Introduction- DH & JS Trading

I was tasked by business owners Jason & Danny to produce some basic online presence for there Ebay business that specialises in the distribution of automotive parts, tools and general electrical and mechanical components for household use, automotive use, engineering & electrical use.

The potential for considered graphic opportunity on Ebay is limited to none, everything is template based running off set Ebay formats so this was an initial problem that came up to start with.

I wanted to create branding work within this responsive brief so this live external brief is a good opportunity to meet my initial wants outlined in the begging of this module while gaining some external recognition and experience.

Requirements
There requirements were basic, they just wanted to make an impact and draw attention into there products and there ebay shop, there was only 2 main areas attention can be drawn in ebay and thats through the Banners & Logo on the shop, as you can see from the screenshot of the shop at the moment its very bland and grey bringing in no impact.

So the initial task was to create a logo and a banner that would draw attention in, they left it open to me in most senses only they almost demanded the use of purple and green in the logo, in as bright a tone as possible. I initially told them this may be a problem due to clashing colours and tones causing illegibility but they were certain on this choice.

There are some set guidelines I need to follow:
310 x 90 is the pixel dimension for the logo.

And a 1200 x 270 pixel dimension for the banner, the file formats I will be using are PNG as they are focused on screen output and will compress down smaller to meet the 4MB limit.

Initial ideas
It was important to break the requirements down into a more refined model to work from as I felt it was going to be quite target audience oriented & market sector led (Automotive, Engineering, Mechanics) when it came to concepts and ideas.

By taking forward the idea of Electronics, Engineering, DIY and Automotive workshops from the target audience I feel this will allow good investigation into ideas that inform more solid visual responses & concepts.

Purpose is to promote services and products through the concept and how its visualised through a logo and banner, to do this it needs an informative tone of voice for its application on an Ebay shop and electronic invoices.

I need to consider the use of purple & green throughout, I want to try alter there perception of this to something more considered for there target audience like greys, blacks & whites may emulate mechanics and engineering in a more effective way.

Possible directions to go are:
Looking into Mathematics & angles to emulate engineering accuracy.
A logotype, quite image based maybe a good vessel for creating high impact and emulating the companies services in a concise way.
Connotations and visualisations of mechanics, electronics, automotive or engineering is something I want to consider when thinking of ideas and ho they are presented.
Consider iconography to expand on the logo type.

Plan of action
I gave myself 14 days for this brief as a logo and banner for ebay isnt too intense but I need a lot of feedback from Jason & Danny so sorting a schedule out for this will be important. Also what I want to avoid though in this brief is the over reliance on aesthetic influence in the outset of idea generation so fully understanding there requirements through meetings is important.

I want to focus on problem solving by fully analyzing the issue at hand without looking for influence before I even have a solid idea, when it comes to influence I want to look more at what the company offers for inspiration of ideas and visuals.
