Digital Mockups for Secret 7 Crit

Digital Mockups for Secret 7 Crit

Ready for the interim crit I created rough digital mockups off my chosen 5 sketches from my initial 30 ideas. I will show the stages of production off each visual.

To inspire the visual off the Harrington button design I used this CD cover as inspiration, the singe color element gives the feeling off something been trapped and creates a nice contrasting element within the composition.

Rough sketch that inspired the digital mockup.

Source image used for vectoring my buttons for the composition.

Place image into vector art board.

Began creating the basic shape using set shapes.

Quick mockup off the basic line art for the button.

Adding color now but it appears too flat, needs element of shading in it.

Using simple lighter color lines added shade and depth too the image.

Basic grid system for positioning the buttons in a systematic way.

Was undecided which worked best so I will be presenting all the button variations in the crit. The use of the brown color connotes traditionality relevant to Jake Buggs style of fashion and the heritage behind the Harrington Jacket. The idea of trapped is also presented with the use of a single color element trapped between grey counterparts which contrast in color but remain constant along the tonal range.

Image only example as I wasn't sure it needed type to explain the concept off "trapped"

A more minimal presentation of the buttons, I don't think it quite suggests been "trapped" though like the above. So I added the lyric word association in there to add context and relevance to the imagery.

Initial idea was too present how Jake got into the guitar by listening to The Simpsons by showing a donut.

I felt a duff can suited better as it denoted homer more who is the key character of the show. I created a very minimal visual of the can to simulate Jakes stripped back style while using pastel tertiary colors to create a more traditional overall feel. The idea of presenting a beer can has vague social connotations off youth culture and drinking which has loose links with Jakes urban upbringing.

Initial idea of presenting an abstract representation of guitar strings, trapping the word "trapped".

Visual research that inspired the abstract line art drawing method and the contrasting tonal colors.

More simplified minimalistic presentation of the above, a very abstract representation of a focused in shot off the guitar hole under the strings. I decided to not tangle the strings and present the lines like this, feedback from a friend suggested it looked like music waves presenting different pitches and tones off the beat off the music which was quite positive.

The hues used are very dark in ton

Initial sketch inspired by the comment on youtube mentioning how the guitar sounded like an angel. This sketch is the idea of a halo been wrapped in a guitar string as mentioned in the initial ideas stage.

Decided to give the halo better composition within the frame off the album sleeve. It was suggested it looked like it was floating too much so I took heed of this and presented the halo like it was falling from heaven so to speak. This has better connotations to angels and heaven and the links in with the fans comment about the song.

My initial idea was to present the guitar string in a tangled mess with the word trapped been presented in the negative space.

I decided against this as it kind of went against Jakes simplistic style of music and fashion and his stripped back style so I reversed the above idea and instead of presenting trapped within the negative of the tangled mess I presented it with the tangled mess been the block color of the type. The pink hues were used to present the idea of horror been flipped on its head. The lyrics within "strange creatures" are quite dark so I decided to brighten things up bait with a much happier connoted color.

Im looking forward too receiving feedback on the crit to help give me more direction on what design too take forward and to perfect in terms of imagery and colors etc. As at the moment the visuals are not very strong, I could create much better aesthetically pleasing designs once a concept is decided upon.
