Type journal

Type journal

Examples of hand rendered types in application on novelty items and greeting cards. Both quite light hearted products. The first is based on a sans serif font with a 3D effect added, the same use of linear art is used in the cup type only this time a little more ornate based on woodblock style fonts with illustrative elements. A contrast of playful lettering and more traditional ornate lettering but with similar visual styles.

I received this amazing letterpress invite for an exhibition in manchester, it incorporates a range of typefaces that  could be classified into a range of categories. The origins from all these in my opinion are B is sable, due to its fluid motion within its strokes. C & C is based on a woodblock font, N is hand rendered but probably inspired by woodblock type due to the traditional squared off serif points. M is hand rendered and digital based, creating this using traditional techniques would be impossible at this accuracy due to the ornate detailing.

Font based on hand rendered typography looks to be a sort of sable style brush used within the strokes.
